Awosting Falls Snowshoe Outing at Minnewaska

Sunday, January 12, 2025 10:00 AM - 01:00 PM

The best prescription to cure cabin fever is to get outside and enjoy the wonders of winter. Get a taste of the cure and come join Laura Conner, Environmental Educator, for an approximately two-and-a-half-mile long snowshoe walk along the charming Awosting Falls Carriage Road. Leaving from the Peter's Kill Area, our path will take us on a slight uphill grade past a towering rock formation and along the edge of the Peter's Kill stream before finally reaching the iconic 65-foot tall Awosting Falls. A limited number of snowshoes are available for participants to borrow for this program from the Education Department. When these run out, snowshoes may be rented for $5 per person. Please plan to arrive by 9:30 a.m. if you will be borrowing snowshoes. If there is insufficient snow cover, this program will be offered as a hike and participants are encouraged to bring microspikes or other ice traction devices. Meet at the Peter's Kill Area, 5080 Route 44/55, Gardiner, New York. Pre-registration is required by calling the Lake Minnewaska Visitor Center at 845-255-0752.
