Hike to an Orchard, a Cliff Edge View and an Echo at Minnewaska
Sunday, April 27, 2025 09:30 AM - 02:00 PM
Join Laura Conner,
Environmental Educator, and Abby Hedler, Student Conservation
Association/Americorps Environmental Educator, for an early spring hike through
an historic orchard that once served the grand hotels found at Minnewaska.
Planted on a steep hill, the view from the top of the orchard is gorgeous.
Continuing along our route, we'll pass through a former hotel golf course to
make our way over to Castle Point Carriage Road, which we'll walk until we
reach Kempton Ledge. From here, there are wide open views of the Palmaghatt
Ravine and Storm King and Breakneck mountains in the distance. Next, we'll make
our way down to Hamilton Point Carriage Road, which we'll follow until we reach
Echo Rock, another scenic viewpoint where you can actually hear the echo of
your own voice. To return, we'll follow Hamilton Point, Millbrook Mountain and
Lake Minnewaska Carriage Roads, swinging back on the opposite side of the Lake
to reach the Visitor Center. This walk is mostly along easy-going carriage
roads, with an estimated total distance of six-and-a-half miles. Please bring
water and food and dress appropriately for the season. Meet at the Lake Minnewaska Visitor Center.
Pre-registration is required by
