First Day Hike

Monday, January 1, 2024 10:00 AM

The Friends of the Catharine Valley Trail in Watkins Glen, NY, are proud to announce the successful restoration of historic railroad markers along the trail, in collaboration with NYS Parks. Led by dedicated volunteer Jody Markley, this project preserves the region's rich railway heritage, with four markers already installed and another soon to be placed. These markers, originally placed around 100 years ago, were painstakingly sanded, primed, and painted to their original glory. The group's mission is to promote trail usage for all and enhance its appeal to locals and tourists. As part of their ongoing efforts, the Friends of the Catharine Valley Trail will be hosting a First Day Hike event on New Year's Day at the Fairgrounds Lane entrance to the Catharine Valley Trail, with a chance to win an Empire Pass and receive commemorative swag. Join the community in celebrating the preservation of these historic markers and kick off 2024 with a refreshing outdoor adventure.
