Independence Day at Clermont Mansion Lawn

What was life like for the people of Clermont at the dawn of the Revolutionary War? See reenactors portray the daily life of these colonists through cooking, woodworking, blacksmithing, and more. Take an open house tour of the historic mansion and learn about the whole history of Clermont from one of our experienced guides. Make a historic craft or try out a colonial game. Be entertained by the songs and stories of Thomas Hooker Hanford. Learn about African American and European Colonial musical traditions with Carla and Keyes. Hear readings of Frederick Douglass' famous speech "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?" Enjoy delicious hot food from At First Bite and sweet frappes and coffees from Happie Bean. The day will end with a reading of the Declaration of Independence. Please note: The cost of this event is $15 per vehicle. Cash only. The event ends at 5:00pm. The park closes at sunset.
