Sunday, September 22, 2024 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM

Meet at Visitor Center.

Cornelia Livingston's sewing table is one of the most eye-catching pieces in Clermont's collection. Join us for an in-depth discussion on the material history and the systems of labor and industry hidden beneath the surface of this beautiful mother-of-pearl and papier-mâché piece from the mid-nineteenth century. This lecture will cover the origins of papier-mâché and lacquer work furniture before diving into the history of the pearling industry before and throughout the Industrial Revolution.

Please note: The cost of the event is $5 per person, please be prepared to pay at the door. Space is limited.
