Celebrate Women’s History Month With The General’s Lady at Washington’s Headquarters
Sunday, March 23, 2025 02:00 PM - 03:00 PM
In honor of
Women's History Month, Washington's Headquarters State Historic Site will hold
its annual program, The General's Lady, Sunday, March 23rd
at 2:00 PM. Inspired by Martha Washington, this event pays
tribute to both the impact of noteworthy historical women and to contemporary
women making a difference in the field of history and preservation in the
Hudson Valley. Join
historian and author Carole Owens for a one-hour program, "Martha
Washington's Contemporaries: Women of the Eighteenth Century". Owens will
reveal what life was like for American women during the period leading into and
during the Revolutionary War by telling the stories of a few everyday women
whose lives were changed by the events of history. Like Martha Washington, they
balanced caring for their families, dealing with the hardships of war, and
embodying the ideals that the burgeoning nation was being founded on. Their
stories might not be as well known as Martha's, but their contributions to the
founding of our great nation are just as remarkable. For
