Colonial Kitchen Series #2: Rebuilding New York’s Historical Kitchens
Thursday, March 13, 2025 06:00 PM - 08:00 PM
This
presentation will ask: How were kitchens built in the eighteenth century and
how have they been rebuilt and reinterpreted at modern historic sites and
museums? To answer these questions, we will explore case studies in New York's
Mohawk and Hudson River Valleys, and also consider the impact that modern
museum-making goals have on our understanding of the culinary and cultural
past.
This
presentation will be given by Sara Evenson, who is a food historian who studies
the cultural creation of kitchen spaces in New York's long eighteenth century. Her
research explores the material, sensory, and architectural ways in which
kitchens were created in the past and are currently interpreted at historic
sites. Sara is a doctoral candidate in History at the University at Albany,
SUNY, and has worked and volunteered in living history for over 20 years.
Presentation will take place at the Rensselaer Public Library and free to the
public. Light refreshments. Space is limited, so please reserve your place by
calling Crailo at (518) 463-8738: deadline: 3/12.
