Hulda's Night

Thursday, October 24, 2019

In his The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Washington Irving said that Sleepy Hollow was bewitched by a high German doctor. Some believe Irving was referring to “Hulda the witch”, a healer who had emigrated from Bavaria and who lived in what is today the Rockefeller State Park Preserve.

Was Hulda a witch or a misunderstood healer? We may never know, but we do know that she died a hero fighting the for the American revolution and is certainly an intriguing part of the Preserve’s history.

Come pay homage to Hulda in the Rockefeller Preserve’s 1st annual Hulda’s Night. The evening will begin at the home of the Preserve’s Manager. We will hike over to Witch’s Spring Trail where we will hear the tale of Hulda as well as other Preserve lore. All are invited to warm up by a fire with hot drinks and snacks at the end of the hike.
