Let’s Talk About It: After the American Civil War

Tuesday, October 17, 2017 07:00 PM

This past spring the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site sponsored a "readings and discussions" series on a Civil War theme, which encouraged casual discussions among participants, thus enriching an understanding of our nation's past.

This autumn, the historic site is offering a "follow up" series which takes up where the Civil War topic concluded, covering the Reconstruction Era postwar legacies, Westward expansion and the Native Americans, early 20th century rise of economic power impact on society, and the United States growing presence in the world. Our rich local history weaves in and out of these topics. "Readings" are free hand-outs, short primary documents.

Once again Jefferson Community College history instructor Josh Canale guides the discussions during four Tuesday evening 7pm sessions on September 12, 19, 26 and Oct 17. This autumn, facilitating with Josh is the College's past president and history instructor Dr. John W. Deans.

Location for the series is the ADA accessible Union Hotel building, at West Main and Ray Sts in Sackets Harbor. Sign up for this free unique experience to discover more about our nation's story that emerged after the Civil War.

Space is limited, please call the Battlefield Site to register – 315-646-3634 or email
