North American War of 1812 Grand Tactical

Saturday, July 27, 2024 until Sunday, July 28, 2024

The North American War of 1812 Grand Tactical annually alternates between the United States and Canada. It brings together this season at Sackets Harbor over 350 authentic living history presenters. These include watercraft, musicians, and those who portray traditional trades people of the era. Destined to be the largest War of 1812 military reenactment of the season the event hosts land forces, naval vessels, artillery, all by participants from across the United States and Canada. This event will feature a full and varied schedule of activities Saturday from 9:00am to 9:00pm and Sunday 9am to 3pm. It includes military and camp life, soldier and sailor skill demos, weapon and uniform demos, daily opposed sides tacticals. That's not all! Regency country dancing Saturday at 4pm and 8pm and Sea Chanty vocalists performing "pop up" appearances throughout the camps. On Sunday at 11:30am a Memorial/Commemoration is set for the 1913 Memorial Grove Centennial Monument. A major goal of the historic site and our partners is to teach history effectively and reunite people with "the sense of their own past." Presentations are an important part of the weekend, thanks to financial support from the Sackets Harbor Battlefield Alliance, the Northern New York Community Foundation, and NYS Parks Bureau of Historic Sites.
