Total Solar Eclipse
On April 8, areas of NYS
will experience a total solar eclipse. As you prepare to visit NY state parks
and historic sites, keep the following in mind. Thank you for your patience as
we do our best to ensure everyone has a safe, enjoyable experience.
- Protect
your eyes with specialized solar viewing glasses. Bring
your own ISO-certified eclipse glasses – never use sunglasses to view an
eclipse.
- Have
travel and backup plans in place. Heavy
vehicle traffic, long lines, and parking lot closures are expected. Plan
to arrive hours early and be prepared to follow special traffic
directions. Parking will be limited. Park in designated areas only. Watch
out for distracted drivers, pedestrians.
- Download
the NY State Parks Explorer app. Favorite
the state park or historic site you plan to visit for real-time updates at
the location.
- Bring
sunscreen and wear appropriate clothing.
Have alternate plans should the weather present hazards.
