Glimmerglass State Park, located eight miles outside the village of Cooperstown, overlooks Otsego Lake, the "Glimmerglass" of James Fenimore Cooper's Leatherstocking Tales. The rolling, partially-wooded terrain is host to a wide variety of wildlife. An uphill trail through the forest affords a spectacular view of Otsego Lake; the Beaver Pond and Woodland trails are picturesque and of interest for the variety of wildflowers, shrubs, ferns and mosses.

The Hyde Hall Mansion, Covered Bridge, and a self-guided Beaver Pond Nature Trail are within park boundaries and open to visitors. Winter visitors can go tubing, cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, winter hiking.

Glimmerglass has three pavilions. Prices range from $75 to $200 and can accommodate 65 to 200 people. Check availability at

Pet Policy: A maximum of two pets are allowed in campsites and day use areas unless prohibited by sign or directive. Pets are to be supervised at all times and either be crated or on a leash not more than 6-feet in length. Proof of rabies inoculation shall be produced if requested by staff. Pets are not permitted in playgrounds, buildings, golf courses, boardwalks, pools and spray-grounds or guarded beaches (this does not apply to service animals).

  • Open year-round.
  • 2020 Swimming Season: 5/23 - 6/14 weekends and holidays 11am to 7pm

    6/15 - 9/7 daily 11am to 7pm

  • 2020 Camping Season:  5/15 - 10/11
    50 campsites, 6 people max, minimum 2 night stay.
    Primitive Camping:  Beaver Pond Loops #38-#56; all are walk-in only sites except #44-#49 which can be reserved through Reserve America; available year-round.

  • Park Office Hours:  
    In season:  Late May - Labor Day.
    8:00 am to 8:30 pm daily

    Off season: Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Snowtubing:  Available on Jan. & Feb. weekends only (weather permitting).
  • Boat Launching:
    Available a short distance from the parking area for personal non-motorized boats.

Fees & Rates

Most New York State Parks charge a vehicle use fee to enter the facility. Fees vary by location and season. A list of entry fees and other park use fees is available below. For fees not listed or to verify information, please contact the park directly.

The easy-to-use Empire Pass card is $80- and your key to all-season enjoyment with unlimited day-use entry at most facilities operated by State Parks and the State Dept. of Environmental Conservation including forests, beaches, trails and more. Participants can hike or snowshoe the 1-2 mile, gently graded loop along the lakeshore and into the woods that will be lit by candlelight. After your hike, join us by the beach for a roaring bonfire to warm up!  The Lakeview Room will be open with hot drinks and snacks.  The Susquehanna SPCA will be on site with a few adoptable animals!  Admission is free, but donations will be accepted on behalf of the Susquehanna SPCA.
