• Open 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m daily.
• Park House Classroom is open Wednesdays & Saturdays from 10:00am-12:00pm & 1:30pm-4:30pm.

Fees & Rates

Entrance to Marsha P. Johnson State Park is free and all public programming and amenities are free of charge. 

• Park Use Permits
• Park Use Permits are required for the following:
  - Film and photoshoots of any size 
  - Reserving a picnic area 
  - Gatherings of 10 or more people
  - Hosting an event of any size, including but not limited to birthday parties, catered picnics, classes, engagements, and wedding ceremonies

Originally a Lenape homeland, by the late 1800's Brooklyn's East River waterfront was lined with industries manufacturing oil, metal, kerosene, rope, boats, sugar, porcelain, glass and beer, and shipping products to and from destinations worldwide.  The property now known as Marsha P. Johnson State Park became a vital barge dock and train yard operating as the Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal until industry declined.  In 1983 the site was abandoned and effectively left fallow.  After decades of cleanups, protests, relentless community advocacy and informal use, the 7-acre site was purchased and mapped as a park. On June 26, 2007, East River State Park officially opened to the public. In February 2020, the Governor renamed the park for trans activist and icon Marsha P. Johnson.  The park offers visitors a delightful green respite and stunning views of the Manhattan skyline.  The green oasis features lawns and native gardens, a sandy beach, popular rustic playground, picnic areas, dog run and outdoor event space along with a lovely Park House with the cleanest public bathrooms in all of Williamsburg.
