Trail Steward Meeting

Moreau Lake State Park Nature Center
A meeting to introduce the
trail steward program to newcomers. The duties of a trail steward include
walking the trails of Moreau Lake State Park to identify and report maintenance
needs, light trail maintenance including cutting back branches with supplied
hand saws and loppers and hanging trail signs when necessary. This meeting will
provide crucial information on what to look for on the trails. Established
trail stewards are welcome to come, but it is not mandatory. This meeting is
free. Park tollbooth fees are

Spring Overlook Loop Hike

moderate to difficult hike to the spring overlook and Spier Falls Overlook.
This is an approximately 4-mile loop hike. Bring appropriate clothing and

an educator on a kid-friendly hike, well-behaved dogs are welcome on a 6 foot
or shorter leash. This is an easy 2 mile loop, but not accessible for
strollers. Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather, sneakers or hiking
boots and bring water. The hike is $1 per

Wiggly Wanderers is a casual and fun program that is
offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies and their caregivers. This will
be a beginner's hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and
caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if
their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we
will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers
will not work for these programs. While you do not need to attend each week, we
will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers'
confidence taking the children into the woods to explore. This event does not
have sign ups, please come if you can. We meet at the nature center parking lot. $1 per child. For any

set up and use an iNaturalist account, followed by a brief walk to test our

iNaturalist
is a community science app for those who have a love for the outdoors. Users
photograph, identify, and learn about the life around them. Observations are
reviewed to ensure accuracy in IDs so that they can be used in scientific
research characterizing migration/seasonal patterns and ecology on a large
scale. Geared for ages 14+. Class is $5

steady to let the kids explore and enjoy an off-trail hike at their own
pace. We will walk roughly a mile and
see the Hudson from another view point and perhaps throw some sticks in! This hike is NOT stroller friendly so if you

all trail steward volunteers or lovers of trails to help do some light trail
work on one of our trails for a couple hours or as long as you would like. You
will be led and taught skills by one of our staff where we will be using
loppers, hand saws and clearing any trash we come across. Please bring water,
wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting dirty, closed toed
shoes/hiking shoes, eye protection, and work gloves if you have them. We will
