"Let's Go Birding Together" is an initiative
that creates inclusive and welcoming birding experiences for the LGBTQ+
community, their allies, and families. It's more than just bird
walks; it's about connecting with nature, birds, and others in a positive
way. This walk is open to all who love birding and all birding abilities.
Join Kennedy, one of our stewardship team members who loves birding, to bird
along some of our trials through old growth forests. Meet at the Reserve Shelter
Parking Lot.

Aliens in the Lake?

Green Lakes State Park
We hear all kinds of stories about Green Lake. One that
might be true is that life near the bottom of the lake is similar to what life
in outer space might look like! Stop by the Environmental Education Center
between 1-3pm to look at some of the tiny lifeforms from Green Lake under a
microscope and learn more about the unusual life found in the lake.

Vista Trail Hike

Green Lakes State Park
Join us on one of our favorite hikes in the Bird
Conservation Area. The Vista Trail takes us through old growth forests and
grasslands. Although this is not a bird walk, we may see them along the way.
This moderate hike is about 2.5 miles over woodland trails. The trail surface
may have tree roots and there are a few hills. We will meet near the playground
in the Rolling Hills Campground.

History Hike

Green Lakes State Park
Take a leisurely walk around the
beach area and up to the Tulip Hill picnic area to hear about how Green Lakes
became the park it is today. Learn about the Civilian Conservation Corps
building the park in the 1930s. This hike is between 1-2 miles. Meet at the
Environmental Education Center (West Beach).

Nature Exploration Walk

Green Lakes State Park
Do you know a kid who loves exploring? That is just what
this walk is all about! Join an environmental educator as we explore along one
of our trails. We may even go a little off trail once or twice. We will use
hand lenses to get up close with nature. Together we will learn how to make
observations to become more aware of the natural world around us. We will walk
1 to 1.5 miles. Wear sneakers or other good walking shoes, bring a water
bottle, and consider wearing bug spray. Meet at the Environmental Education
Center (West Beach).

Old Growth Hike

Join us on another of our favorite hikes through old growth
forests. This trail takes us through the area known as the "Tulip Tree
Cathedral." This moderate hike is about 3-3.5 miles over woodland trails. The
trail surface may have tree roots and there are a few hills. We will meet near
the playground in the Rolling Hills Campground.

Secrets of the Lake Walk

Green Lakes State Park
Join an educator on a guided hike around the lake to learn
its secrets. Why is the lake green? How is it a rare lake? What unusual life
live in its depths? This is a two mile walk on a flat crushed gravel trail.
Usually takes between 1-1.5 hours. Guide presents info along the first ¼ mile.
Simply enjoy the walk and view for the rest of the hike and ask the guide any
questions you have. Meet at the Environmental Education Center (West Beach).

Map and Compass Treasure Hunt

Green Lakes State Park
Learn how to use a compass while on a treasure hunt! This is
a kid focused program; kids must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at the
Reserve Shelter Ball Field.
