Sunrise Stroll

Celebrate the start of a new season with a Sunrise Stroll on the World's Longest Elevated Pedestrian Bridge. During the vernal and autumnal equinoxes, the sun rises in line with the Walkway deck, making for a spectacular photo opportunity. We're opening the gates early at 6:30 a.m. on both approaches to allow everyone to enjoy this magnificent experience. There's no cost to attend Sunrise Stroll.

This 18-hole scramble event features stunning views of the Shawangunk Mountains, classic competitions like longest drive and closest-to-the-pin, light lunch on the course, a delicious locally-sourced dinner, drinks, post-round awards, an awesome raffle and other fun surprises throughout the day. Play as an individual golfer or register your foursome. Want to join us for dinner only? Non-golfers are welcome to attend after the round with a non-golf dinner ticket. Kids will explore how plants help us breathe, how animals and bugs work together, and how even things like dirt and worms help keep the Earth healthy.We'll also hear stories about how the Indigenous communities – the first people who lived along the Hudson River – took care of the land and used its resources wisely. Starry Starry Night

Every October, we celebrate the anniversary of Walkway Over the Hudson's grand opening and the millions of connections made high atop the Hudson River since 2009. Starry Starry Night is a magical evening showcasing the bounty of the Hudson Valley and highlighting Friends of the Walkway's profound impact on our region. Plan to join us at Upper Landing Park in Poughkeepsie on Friday, October 3 from 6-10 p.m. where guests will enjoy numerous food and drink stations featuring chef-crafted culinary creations expertly paired with local wines, beers, and spirits. Live music, art, and other captivating performances will create a dazzling, festival-like atmosphere before the Walkway's glass-enclosed elevator transports guests onto the World's Longest Elevated Bridge for one-of-a-kind twilight views and a fireworks display. Walkway Connections (For Kids): Using Patterns In Artwork

Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park
Young artists will use a black and white outline of the Walkway and its picturesque surroundings to fill in with various patterns at this fun and interactive art event led by Rose Gennaro on Friday, October 10 from 5-6 p.m. at the Ulster Welcome Center (87 Haviland Road, Highland). All Walkway Connections events are free to attend, no RSVP required. A volunteer Ambassador for the Walkway Over the Hudson, Rose Gennaro is also an established Artist in the area. She has a BS in Art Education and an MS in Fine Art and has a passion for painting beautiful scenery and subjects that inspire her. In addition, she has studied under local and accomplished artists in the region. She has taught art privately, in public schools and is currently teaching online. Her style is a combination of realism and impressionism, with an emphasis on light and dramatic contrasts.

Friends of the Walkway is pleased to offer the opportunity to enjoy amazing Hudson Valley views after dark from 212 feet above the Hudson River at Walkway at Night. With the moon hanging high in the sky and the Mid-Hudson Bridge twinkling in the distance, there is truly nothing like a twilight evening on the World's Longest Elevated Pedestrian Bridge. Our friends from the Mid-Hudson Astronomical Association will be on-bridge with telescopes to view the night sky (weather permitting).Reserve your ticket for entry at

This Walkway Connections program on Sunday, October 19 from 2-3 p.m. at the Ulster Welcome Center (87 Haviland Road, Highland) will consist of a brief presentation illustrating the importance of bats and the role the play in our ecosystem. Participants will then be able to try pumpkin painting and building their own bat box to bring these wonderful creatures closer to their homes. Costumes are encouraged! Led by Mike Littier of New York State Parks. Mike has been with Parks for over 10 years and has a background in ecology and environmental education. All Walkway Connections events are free to attend with no RSVP required.

Flag Changing Ceremony
