A discussion about what to wear, what to bring, using maps, and the varied terrain in the Preserve will increase your comfort when hiking in the future. A short family-friendly hike around Swan Lake will follow to see if any questions come to mind. Leashed dogs are welcome. Max: 20 people. Cost: FREE. Parking: $6 per vehicle.

Learn the basics of fly fishing and leave with the skills and confidence to get out on the water in this four-part workshop series led by expert, Len Savanella. Sessions 1 and 2 will cover the vocabulary and history of fly fishing, gear, casting, and fly tying. Sessions 3 and 4 will cover ecology and best practices and will take place in the stream so you can put your newfound skills to the test! Equipment will be provided but if you have your own, please bring it. Recommendations for gear and literary resources will be provided. Cost: $50; registration includes all four classes in the series. Max: 10 people.

This Mother's Day, treat yourself or the special woman in your life to a unique restorative sound healing experience in the woods. Immerse yourselves in nature as the sounds of crystal singing bowls, chimes, and a variety of soothing instruments allow your minds to drift from an active state to a relaxed and meditative state. This special 75-minute session will take place at the Glacial Erratic, a 15-minute walk from the main parking lot. We encourage you to begin or end your journey at the Visitor Center courtyard to admire the beauty of the peony garden. Ages 10+. Max: 30 people. Cost: $8. Parking: $6 per vehicle.

House Hunters: Cavity-Nesting Birds

The Preserve has been designated an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society; it is a critical habitat for breeding migratory birds, including cavity-nesting species. Become part of our stewardship team for the day and shadow naturalist, Josh DiPaola, as he performs nest inspections on a variety of breeding sites in the Rockwood Hall area. Gain insight into their unique ecology and learn what you can do to help protect these species in recognition of World Migratory Bird Day. Max: 20 people. Cost: $4.

Please join us for the Pocantico Center's second annual Community Day at the David Rockefeller Creative Arts Center. Preserve educator, Kim Fendrich, will have a display of rocks, minerals, and fossils from around the world, uncovering the mysteries of Earth's 4.5-billion-year history one sample at a time. The day will include family-friendly interactive performances, hands-on art and STEAM activities, bilingual story time, garden activities, face painting, an open artist's studio, and complimentary pizza and ice cream.
