Outdoor Adventure Hemlock Hollow Half Moon Hike

The Environmental Educational and Recreation Department will lead a sensory hike on Hemlock Hollow, a new trail near the Red House toll booth, from 6:00-8:00 PM. Learn about the animals of the night and who makes what sound. Try to identify trees by their shape and texture of their bark. Look to the stars and moon, find out how they can help you navigate at night. Bring a head lamp or flashlight (although we will try not to use it), water and your sense of adventure. This free hike starts at the Red House Chapel parking lot.

Participants will explore the Hemlock Hollow trail as they learn about tree identification and the soon to be returning spring birds. Hikers are asked to meet in the Site 3 parking lot, .25 miles from the Red House toll booth (inside the park), at 1:00 p.m. and to come dressed for the weather. Each hike will last approximately two hours. Registration is not required. Join us on Saturday, March 17th for "By the Fireside" in the Red House Administration Building lobby. This month's featured performance is by Jamie Haight. Jamie began playing guitar at the age of 9. He played many gigs and dances in high school, entertaining crowds with songs from Harry Chapin, The Five Man Electric Band, and Nirvana. Later he played with bands such as Djava, Sweet Jane, and China Phrog to name a few. Jamie was a member of the Chautauqua Area Musician Program's "Fantasy Rock Star League," and was voted Chautauqua County's best lead guitarist in 2005. Over the last several years Jamie has done mostly solo work, performing at area venues and recording albums. Jamie loves playing music and teaching the many fun aspects of playing guitar.
