Adult Summer Learning Series: Sustainable Design and Buildings through Time at Sam’s Point
Thursday, July 24, 2025 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM
When someone mentions a green building to you, they probably
aren't referring to the color, but what are they really talking about? Join
Madison Cannella, Sam's Point Student Conservation Association/Americorps
Education and Stewardship Assistant, and trained architectural designer, to
discover what it means for a building to be "green" and to learn architectural
representation through a series of guided drawing exercises. We'll use the Lake
Minnewaska and Sam's Point Visitor Centers as case studies for participants to
learn about passive/sustainable design principals and also how to identify
potential green washing in building practices. This presentation will be
followed by an approximately half mile long hike along a portion of Loop
Road. While on the hike, participants will have the opportunity to learn
and practice drawing ‘architecturally' as we stop for vignette-style surveys of
the historic buildings found right here at Sam's Point. Participants are
encouraged to bring sketchbooks and pen/pencils, but some supplies will be
available for participants to borrow. Meet at the Sam's Point Visitor Center. Pre-registration
is required by signing up via
Eventbrite.
