The State Board for Historic Preservation is an independent panel of experts whose function is to advise and provide recommendations on state and federal preservation programs to the State Parks Commissioner, New York's State Historic Preservation Officer. The board meets four times a year and the meetings are open to the public.
The Board will review and make recommendations on properties for nomination to the State and National Registers of Historic Places. The Registers are the official lists of buildings, structures, districts, landscapes, objects and sites significant in the history, architecture, archeology and culture of New York and the nation.

The New York State Historic Preservation Awards honor excellence in the preservation and revitalization of the state's historic and cultural treasures. The awards this year will recognize some of the most important preservation efforts statewide.
Recipients of the 2007 Historic Preservation Awards include Universal Preservation Hall, Saratoga Springs; Town of Roxbury; Eldridge Street Synagogue, New York City; Adirondack Architectural Heritage; and Assembly Sam Hoyt (D-Buffalo).
Directions:
From Albany take 787 north to Ontario Street (Cohoes). Turn Right at light onto Ontario Street and go approx. 1 mile to 112th Street Bridge. Just before you go over the bridge, turn left onto Delaware Avenue--you'll see a sign for Peebles Island State Park. Follow to end. From Troy take Second Avenue to the 112th Street Bridge, cross over the Hudson River and take the first right onto Delaware Avenue. Follow to end.
