State Parks Standing Committee to Meet to Review Project Funding

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Niagara River Greenway Fund Standing Committee (State Parks Standing Committee) will hold its next meeting on Friday, January 18 at 10:30 a.m. in the Niagara Adventure Theatre located in the Niagara Falls State Park Visitors Center at Prospect Point. On the agenda will be the approval of protocols for the State Parks Standing Committee, which will govern its operations as it reviews projects and distributes funds for those projects deemed consistent with Niagara River Greenway Commission Plan. The committee will also review and make funding determinations for any projects that are approved and sent to the Committee by the Niagara River Greenway Commission at their meeting earlier in the week. This meeting is open to the general public.

The State Parks Standing Committee is composed of one representative each from State Parks and NYPA which was determined as part of a settlement agreement related to the new 50-year license received by NYPA for the Niagara project. The committee also receives funds from NYPA as part of the settlement agreement. In addition to the State Parks Standing Committee, three other standing committees were created to disperse funds those groups received in other settlement agreements with NYPA. The other committees are: Greenway Ecological Standing Committee, Host Community Greenway Fund Standing Committee and the Erie County Greenway Fund Standing Committee.

The Niagara River Greenway Commission is a public benefit corporation established by Chapter 460 of the laws of 2004, and charged with the planning and development of a greenway of interconnected parks, river access points and waterfront trails along the Niagara River from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario at the site of the historic Fort Niagara.
