What: Draft Master Plan and Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for Sampson State Park

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has developed a Revised Draft Master Plan and Draft Environmental Impact Statement (Revised Draft MP/DEIS) for Sampson State Park, located in the Town of Romulus, Seneca County. The public is invited to join an online meeting on Wednesday, August 19th at 12:00 pm for an opportunity to discuss the park's future. Registration is required for the interactive meeting, which will offer the opportunity for public response and comment. Please see details below. An online version of the draft Master Plan/DEIS is available at the following publicly accessible website: https://parks.ny.gov/inside-our-agency/master-plans.aspx. Non-digital copies of the documents can be obtained from the Agency Contact listed below.

The Revised Draft Master Plan/DEIS includes proposals for resource protection and recreational use, including continued rehabilitation and maintenance of the parks' existing facilities as well as construction of new park facilities. Rehabilitation or improvements are proposed for the existing campground, fishing pier, park office/recreation building, court games, public restroom, circulation and entry for the museum and adjacent grounds, and replacement of the park water system.

New infrastructure will include additional campsites and cabins with associated amenities, a hotel and event center, pavilion, four-bay dump station, solar panel array, internet connectivity, and improved access to park amenities and recreational programs for people of all abilities. A Stewardship Plan and Invasive Species Management Plan will be developed to help protect park resources. Future assessment and planning will guide development of a Vehicular/Pedestrian/Trails Plan. The Revised Draft Master Plan/DEIS describes potential environmental impacts and mitigation of those that may be adverse. Areas that have been evaluated with respect to impacts include land, water, wetlands, air, biological resources/ecology, historic and archeological resources, scenic resources, recreation, open space, traffic/access, public health and safety, and energy, noise and odor.

On Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at 12:00 pm, Parks' staff will make a presentation about the Sampson SP Revised Draft MP/DEIS, followed by a question and answer session. Free registration in advance of the meeting is required in order to attend.
