The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) was awarded a Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) Grant for Construction of Four (4) Pedestrian Bridges along the Genesee Valley Greenway at key crossings in Allegany County.

The project includes construction of four new bridges along with selective resurfacing to provide a continuous route. The project will eliminate detours to busy Route 19 and connect seven rural communities including Portageville, Rossburg, Fillmore, Houghton, Caneadea, Oramel, and Belfast.

Pedestrian bridge locations and bridge lengths include: Wiscoy Creek in Rossburg (162'), Cold Creekin Fillmore (165'), Houghton Creek in Houghton (34'), and Caneadea Creek [Rushford Lake Outlet]in Caneadea (124'). The project will help create 22 miles of continuous trail along the Genesee Valley Greenway State Park.

OPRHP will hold a public informational meeting on October 9, 2024 at 6:00 pm at Houghton College to provide details on the scope of work and offer the public an opportunity to comment.
