Power Authority to Host Public Meeting on Draft Construction Design for Reservoir State Park

Who: New York State Power Authority; State Parks
What: Public Meeting on Draft Construction Design for Reservoir State Park
When: October 13, 2009 7pm-9pm
Where: Niagara Power Project

The New York Power Authority (NYPA) will host a public meeting on Oct. 13, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Niagara Power Project to discuss the ongoing design for the rehabilitation of Reservoir State Park. The planned work comes as a result of a settlement agreement related to the relicensing of the Niagara project in 2007 and is being done in cooperation with New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation (OPRHP).

The meeting will be an opportunity for the community to view the concept design, make comments and ask questions about the improvements. Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2010.

As a part of a settlement agreement associated with the new federal license for the Niagara project, NYPA agreed to establish a fund in the amount of $9.26 million to be used for capital improvements by OPRHP at different locations in the area. Reservoir State Park was allotted more than $3.7 million of the funding, with the planned improvements approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The park improvements include restoration of greenspace, rehabilitation of the maintenance building, construction of a winter pavilion and comfort station, expansion of the existing basketball courts, upgrade of the tennis courts, rehabilitation of existing baseball diamonds, including mast lighting of one diamond, and expansion of the parking lots.

Reservoir State Park is a 133-acre park that is located at the base of the Lewiston Reservoir and lies within the licensed boundary of the Niagara project on NYPA-owned land. The park is operated and maintained by OPRHP.NYPA and OPRHP have indicated that the improvements at Reservoir State Park should be completed by the end of 2011.
