(Albany, New York, April 17, 1998...) Commissioner Bernadette Castro said today that the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will hold two public information meetings on Wednesday, April 29, to outline proposals for the adaptive reuse of two historic buildings: Hoyt House in Mills Norrie State Park and the Brick Cottage at the John Jay Homestead State Historic Site.
"Both of these buildings are important historic resources that have been deteriorating," said Commissioner Castro. "We are exploring ways to save these unique structures and now are ready to get input from the public."
The meeting on the Brick Cottage will be held at the John Jay Homestead State Historic Site in Katonah at 1:30 p.m. The meeting on the Hoyt House will be held at the Norrie Point Environmental Center in Staatsburg at 7 p.m.
The meetings will give the public an opportunity to provide suggestions and identify issues related to the protection and adaptive reuse of these historic structures. Summary information will also be available at the meetings.
Those who cannot attend may request information from Dennis Wentworth, regional director of operations, NYS Parks, Taconic Region, Staatsburg, NY 12580, 914-889-4100. Written comments are welcome and will be accepted until May 8 and may be sent to Wentworth's attention.
