New York State Parks, Nassau County & Suffolk County Team Up for Day of Service to Clean Up Long Island Beaches

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (State Parks), Nassau County and Suffolk County are teaming up this Saturday to encourage volunteers to participate in beach clean-up events at parks and beaches across Long Island.

State Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey said, "I invite volunteers of all ages to join County Executive Mangano, County Executive Bellone and me to show support for Long Island's beautiful shoreline. The public's dedication can make our public parks and beaches the very best they can be. Governor Cuomo has made a tremendous commitment to revitalizing State Parks through his multi-year commitment of capital funds to improve more than 100 state parks, and by sponsoring events such as I Love My Park Day. Saturday's beach clean-up is a great opportunity for the public to be a part of the protection and improvement of these beloved places."

County Executive Ed Mangano stated, "From protecting our bays and beaches, to marine life and waterways, these environmental cleanup efforts along our shorelines are critical for our way of life in Nassau County.  I thank the Governor, our residents and local organizations that annually commit themselves to leaving our community better than they found it."

County Executive Steven Bellone said, "New York State, particularly Suffolk County, is home to some of the best park anywhere in the Country. Any and every opportunity we have to partner with the State to do a parks cleanup is a valuable opportunity to ensure our parks are a beautiful, clean and green."

Volunteers are needed and welcome at all events to help to protect the seashore. You can register to volunteer by calling the park that you are interested in lending a hand to help.

State Park clean-up events are being held in cooperation with the American Littoral Society and sponsored by the Natural Heritage Trust.  The International Coastal Cleanup is a global effort, under the international umbrella of the Ocean Conservancy, in which more than 100 countries participate.
