The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (State Parks) will hold two public information meetings on a draft Master Plan/Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Taconic State Park. The park is located along the border of Columbia County and Dutchess County and is comprised of two areas, Copake Falls and Rudd Pond. In an effort to reach as many members of the community as possible, the public has the option of attending meetings either in Millerton or Copake, as well as submit written comments.
The purpose of the public information meetings is to actively invite public participation and involvement in the planning process. Public participation will help OPRHP in identifying issues, concerns and alternatives as well as determining the depth to which each of the topics is explored within the Draft Master Plan and Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). The master plan will guide park development and operation over the next decade. More information about this process can be found on http://nysparks.com/inside-our-agency/master-plans.aspx or can be obtained through State Parks Taconic Regional Office, 9 Old Post Rd., Staatsburg, or the OPRHP Planning Bureau, 625 Broadway, 2nd Fl., Albany.
The first meeting will be held Wednesday, March 16 at North East-Millerton Library Annex, located at 75 Main St., Millerton. A workshop will be held at 6 p.m., followed by the information meeting at 7 p.m. Municipal parking is available on Century Boulevard, one block north of Main Street, next to the Millerton Fire Department.
The second hearing will take place on Saturday, April 2 at Copake Town Hall, located at 230 Mountain View Rd., Copake. The workshop begins at 10 a.m., followed by the information meeting at 11 a.m. Parking is available on site.
Written comments about the draft plan will be accepted until April 29, 2016. Comments can be submitted by email to taconic.plan@parks.ny.gov or by mail to Sara Hart, OPRHP Planning Bureau, 625 Broadway, 2nd Fl., Albany, N.Y., 12207.
