Statue honoring famed inventor to receive special care and view
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (State Parks) announced that preparations will begin next week for the special attention and reestablishment of the Nikola Tesla monument at Niagara Falls State Park. The methodical and multi-step process, expected to be completed in June, will provide the monument honoring the famed inventor a one-of-a-kind view overlooking the American Falls at Stedman's Bluff. The tribute to Mr. Tesla, a gift from the people of Yugoslavia to the United States in 1976 as recognition of the Nation's bicentennial, will serve as a principal focus in the prominent, inspirational and redesigned Stedman's Bluff setting with views of the American Falls, Luna Island, Prospect Point and the Niagara River. Visitors will be able to recognize and appreciate the achievements and contributions of Mr. Tesla and what he meant to both Niagara Falls and the nation.
Attention to the monument includes freeing the statue from its concrete base, installation of new supports, special care and cleaning and the reestablishment at Stedman's Bluff. Once repositioned within the park, the statute will become more accessible for all visitors with seating along the base perfect for photographs and reflection.
Nikola Tesla, father of alternating-current and responsible for numerous inventions, designed the first alternating-current hydroelectric power plant in Niagara Falls in 1895. The reestablishment of the monument honoring Nikola Tesla is part of the $70 million revitalization at Niagara Falls State Park.
