New York State Parks Invites All Visitors to Celebrate the Holidays at State Parks
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation invites residents and visitors to celebrate the season at more than 80 holiday-themed events taking place at New York State Parks and Historic Sites. Events feature a variety of hands-on activities, historic tours, outdoor recreation, and holiday celebrations for visitors of all ages.
"Every season, New York's state parks and historic sites offer countless opportunities to explore the outdoors and enjoy family-friendly fun," said State Parks Commissioner Erik Kulleseid. "Participating in some of our holiday-themed activities is a great way to start a new tradition and celebrate the winter season."
Highlights of the holiday-themed events include tree lighting ceremonies at multiple Long Island State Parks and the return of the Magic of Lights drive-through at Jones Beach; tours of the decorated historic homes of Staatsburg and Clermont in the Mid-Hudson Valley; annual bird counts at Letchworth in the Genesee Region; crafts, music and celebrations at Lorenzo's historic site in Central New York; wreath workshops at Clay Pit Ponds in New York City; and candlelight tours of Old Fort Niagara's French castle in Western New York.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation oversees more than 250 parks, historic sites, recreational trails, golf courses, boat launches and more, which are visited by 74 million people annually. A recent study found that New York State Parks generates $5 billion in park and visitor spending, which supports nearly 54,000 jobs and over $2.8 billion in additional state GDP.
