State Parks Moves to Update Historic Preservation Plan

Division for Historic Preservation Releases Draft Scoping Document

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) Division for Historic Preservation today announced the release of the Draft Scoping Document for the Draft New York State Historic Preservation Plan (2021-2025) and Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement (DGEIS) for public comment.

The document and resulting public comments will aid in preparation of the State Historic Preservation Plan (SHPP), which guides preservation efforts at the local, regional and state levels. This plan is a blueprint for identifying and preserving the state's historic and cultural resources and is periodically updated to address current needs, issues, and opportunities.

Required under the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the plan will detail potential preservation resources and community development efforts. Previously, plans have been issued by the Division for Historic Preservation in 2015, 2009, 2001, 1995, 1975 and 1970.An online version of the Draft Scoping Document is available at the following publicly accessible website: https://parks.ny.gov/inside-our-agency/master-plans.aspx

A non-digital copy of the document can be provided by the agency contact listed below.

Written comments on the Draft Scoping Document for the Draft SHPP/Draft GEIS will be accepted until May 6, 2020, and may be submitted to SHPP.plan@parks.ny.gov or mailed to the contact address below. Following the written comment period, OPRHP will prepare and post a Final Scoping Document.
