STORM CLOSES GILBERT LAKE STATE PARK

(Albany, New York June 2, 1998 ...) New York State Parks Commissioner Bernadette Castro today announced Gilbert Lake State Park in Laurens will be closed until Friday, June 12, while parks staff cleans up the debris and damage left from Sunday's storm.

"The storm has extensively damaged more than 1,000 tress and knocked out utilities within the park," said Commissioner Castro. "We will have our staff, along with other agencies, working continually to get Gilbert Lake re-opened by June 12."

Commissioner Castro said the temporary closure of the park means that the beach, shelters, cabins and campgrounds will be off-limits to the public.

Anyone with camping reservations at Gilbert Lake will be contacted by Park.Net, New York's camping reservation service, to change or cancel their reservation.
