PARKS COMMISSIONER ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS TO REGIONAL STATE PARK COMMISSIONS

(Albany, New York, June 23, 1998...) New York State Parks Commissioner Bernadette Castro today announced several appointments and reappointments to regional state park, recreation and historic preservation commissions.

Appointments to the 11 regional state park commissions are made by Governor Pataki and confirmed by the Senate. All of the appointments were confirmed by the Senate during the last week of the 1998 session.

The appointments include:

Heather Mabee, of Saratoga Springs, nominated March 10, 1998 for a term to expire June 1, 2004 as a member of the Saratoga-Capital District State Park, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commission. This is a reappointment. Mabee also serves as the chairperson of the commission.

"Heather is doing an outstanding job," said Commissioner Castro. "I commend Governor Pataki for reappointing her chairperson of the Saratoga-Capital District State Parks Commission."

Thomas O. Maggs, of Scotia, nominated May 19, 1998 for a term to expire June 30, 2005 as a member of the Saratoga-Capital District State Park, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commission.

Raymond Q. Waldron, of Saratoga Springs, nominated on May 19, 1998 for a term to expire June 30, 2004 as a member of the Saratoga-Capital District State Park, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commission. This is a reappointment.

Heather A. DeCastro, of Lewiston, nominated on June 12, 1998 for a term to expire April 7, 2004 as a member of the Niagara Frontier State Park, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commission.

John P. Silsby, of North Tonawanda, nominated on June 15, 1998 for a term to expire January 13, 2005 as a member of the Niagara Frontier State Park, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commission. This is a reappointment.

"These individuals will serve as outstanding assets to our regional parks commissions," said Commissioner Castro. "I'm confident they will help us continue the outstanding progress we have made at our state parks and historic sites under the great leadership of Governor Pataki."
