PARKS COMMISSIONER OPENS NEW BOAT LAUNCH AT SILVER LAKE

(Castile, New York, Thursday, July 23, 1998...) New York State Parks Commissioner Bernadette Castro today joined local officials and representatives of the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to officially open a new boat launch at Silver Lake State Park in Castile, Wyoming County.

"The plan, construction and now opening of this boat launch has served as a great example of government, business and sportsmen working together for the betterment of Silver Lake State Park and our park patrons," said Commissioner Castro.

Commissioner Castro said the new 14-foot wide concrete boat launch will be able to accommodate small boats. The work also included a new parking area for 28 vehicles, improvements to the access road and shoreline improvements. Construction began in April and took about one month to complete.

She said State Parks staff worked with DEC, as well as state lawmakers Senator Dale Volker and Assemblyman Thomas M. Reynolds, the Wyoming County Wildlife Federation, the Wyoming County Highway Department and area businessman Ed Hulme on this project.

"I am proud to have played a role in making these improvements become a reality," said Senator Volker. "These enhancements will make Silver Lake more attractive to boaters in Western New York and across the state. As an avid fisherman, I look forward to using the boat launch."

"Boaters and sportsmen in Wyoming County and throughout Western New York will benefit greatly from this great partnership that expands outdoor recreational opportunities at Silver Lake State Parks," said Assemblyman Reynolds.

"This project was a real grass roots public-private partnership which has provided a beautiful fishing and boating access point to Silver Lake," said Gerald Mikol, DEC Region 9 director.
