PARKS COMMISSIONER ANNOUNCES NEW SUPERVISOR FOR HIGLEY FLOW

(Albany, New York April 2, 1998 ...) New York State Parks Commissioner Bernadette Castro today announced the appointment of John S. Wood as the new park supervisor at Higley Flow State Park in South Colton in the Thousand Islands State Park Region.

Wood, who has served as the park manager at Clay Pit Ponds State Park on Staten Island since 1988, is credited with restoring one of the last working farms in New York City and creating an environmental education program at Clay Pit Ponds that serves thousands of school children annually.

"We are so delighted to have John's experience and dedication to the outdoors working for us at this great state park," said Commissioner Castro. "He very much wanted to return to his Adirondack roots and this will certainly be a big plus for the Thousand Islands Region."

Wood has degrees in forestry, environmental science and resource management and has worked several summers for the National Park Service in Utah and California.

Higley Flow is one of 28 parks and two historic sites located within the Thousand Islands Region.
