Golf Pass Available at Public Course in Finger Lakes
PGA Tour Player Joey Sindelar Supports Pilot Program

(Albany, New York... April 21, 2006) New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) Commissioner Bernadette Castro today joined with PGA Tour Player and New York native Joey Sindelar to encourage golfers to take advantage of the new season pass being offered through Soaring Eagles Golf Course at Mark Twain State Park in Horseheads, New York. Soaring Eagles, the long-time home course to Joey Sindelar, is the first golf facility of its kind in the state park system to issue this unique pass.

Commissioner Castro said, "Now that we are enjoying the warmer temperatures and more golfers are headed out on the links, this season pass at Soaring Eagles is the perfect way to enjoy affordable rounds of play in this scenic setting. Under this pilot program, we hope to increase rounds of play for local golfers and draw new golfers to this popular 18-hole course. Once again we have strengthened our commitment to public golf, providing an expanding array of public courses throughout the Empire State that are well maintained and challenging, and some of the best bargains in golf today."

Mr. Sindelar said, "Our community is very lucky to the have the wide variety and high caliber of public courses such as Soaring Eagles for golfers in our region. With the introduction of the season pass, Soaring Eagles now offers an option similar to other facilities and I am thrilled that players of all ages can take advantage of this new promotion at the popular course."

The price of the pass is as follows:
Full Fee Golfer
$825 for the year, no restrictions
Senior Golfer
$600 for the year, plus $10 add-on for rounds played Saturday/Sunday or holidays prior to 2:00 p.m. After 2:00 p.m., $10 fee is waived. (NYS residents age 62 and older)
Junior Golfer
$350 for the year, plus the $10 add-on for rounds played Saturday/Sunday or holidays prior to 2:00 p.m. After 2:00 p.m., $10 fee is waived. (NYS residents age 17 and under)

Named for the great 19th-century author who spent summers in the area, Mark Twain State Park features this scenic and challenging 18-hole course. Soaring Eagles has a unique 18-hole design with only two parallel holes that welcomes an average of 30,000 rounds of play each year. The excellent conditions for this course were created thousands of years ago by a retreating glacier which laid down hundreds of feet of sand, gravel and silt.

New York State Parks' 28 public courses offer excellent value to golfers of all ability levels, including the renowned Bethpage Black Course on Long Island, site of the 2002 and 2009 U.S Open Golf Championship. Additional information about the pass is available at Soaring Eagles, 607-739-0034. The two other State Parks' public courses in the Finger Lakes region are Bonavista in Ovid (607-869-5482) and Pinnacle in Addison (607-739-0034). Golfers are advised to call each course for schedules, current fees and to make reservations. Most major credit cards are accepted.

In addition to the golf courses, OPRHP oversees 175 state parks and 35 historic sites throughout the state. For more information on any State Parks facilities or programs, please contact (518) 486-1868 or visit the web site at http://www.nysparks.com.
