(Albany, NY... Tuesday May 2, 2006 ) Bernadette Castro, Commissioner of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, has announced that State Parks' golf courses are now open for the 2006 season. State Parks' oversees 28 spectacular public courses within 20 facilities across the state.
"The state park system offers a full range of scenic and challenging golf courses in New York," said State Parks Commissioner Bernadette Castro. "Season after season we are able provide affordable, enjoyable rounds of play for our public golfers at these popular sites."
These beautifully maintained courses offer excellent value to golfers of all ability levels and include the renowned Bethpage Black Course on Long Island, site of the 2002 & 2009 U.S Open Golf Championship. Greens fees vary from course to course; therefore, golfers are advised to call each course for current fees and to make reservations. Most major credit cards are accepted.
While most courses have already opened, changes in weather may force some of them to operate on a day-to-day basis. Golfers are advised to call ahead if there is a question about course conditions. A list of state park golf courses and telephone numbers follows, arranged alphabetically according to region.
NOTE: Commissioner Castro reminds all golfers playing any of the New York State Parks-operated golf courses that they must wear non-penetrating or alternative footwear (no spikes).
