Severe Weather Forces Closure of State Parks in Western New York

(Niagara Falls, New York, October 13, 2006...) The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is alerting patrons that due to severe weather, some state parks in Western New York have closed, effectively immediately.

Darien Lakes State Park is closed for camping and day use until further notice. For more information and updates, please call the Genesee State Parks Regional Headquarters at (585) 493-3600.

Beaver Island State Park and the Beaver Island Golf Course will be closed for a minimum of one week. The Beaver Island Clubhouse will remain open for scheduled events and meetings and access to the Clubhouse will be allowed. The First Seymour H. Knox, III Memorial Kite Flying Contest, to be held at Knox Farm State Park in East Aurora has been cancelled by the Friends of Knox Farm State Park due to weather conditions at the park. For more information and updates, please call the park office at (716) 655-7200.
