New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commissioner Rose Harvey has announced that the golf course at Beaver Island State Park will open for the season on April 21.

"As a sure sign of spring, State Park golf courses are greening up and welcoming golfers who've made it through a long, hard winter," Commissioner Harvey said. "State Park golf courses offer great value and some of the most challenging play in the country. We hope to see our regular golfers and many new visitors hitting the links soon."

Harvey noted that OPRHP offers gift cards for golf at most state-operated courses. The Golf Gift Card can be purchased by credit card, check or cash in person at any of the golf courses at which it is accepted and, in most areas, at the State Park regional offices. It can be purchased for any amount and, while it does not guarantee availability at a particular course or tee time, it has no expiration date and is usable for any golf service except those operated by a private concern under contract with New York State Parks.

"For those looking for a Mother's Day or Father's Day gift idea, consider our Golf Gift Card and share our spectacular courses with your golf-loving parent this season," Harvey said.

Changes in weather may impact operating schedules and anticipated opening dates. Golfers are advised to call ahead if there is a question about course conditions. Tee times and additional information can be obtained by calling (716)773-2010 or by going to, www.nysparks.com.
