Rose Harvey, Commissioner of New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, encouraged New Yorkers to discover the state's rich heritage by visiting a historic site during New York Heritage Weekend, May 14-15. Most of the park system's 35 historic sites will be participating in the statewide celebration.
"New York Heritage Weekend will showcase some of the places where the course of our nation's history changed and our culture was defined," Harvey said. "New Yorkers will be amazed to learn about the fascinating people, places and events connected to our historic sites."
With the cooperation of federal, state, and private organizations, and in celebration of National Preservation Month, New York Heritage Weekend will highlight special events at heritage and cultural destinations throughout New York State. For information on events, visit www.heritageweekend.org.
