Public Input Sought for Thacher and Thompson’s Lake State Parks

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) is currently developing a new master plan for John Boyd Thacher and Thompson's Lake State Parks and is inviting the public to comment at an open house at the Emma Treadwell Thacher Nature Center on Saturday April 28 from 9:00AM to 5:00PM. Park staff and agency planners will be available to answer questions and receive comments from the public. No decisions about the elements of the master plan have been made and this gives members of the public an opportunity to contribute comments about the future of the parks at the earliest stage of planning.

Park master plans are used by the agency to analyze and improve park facilities and provide park patrons with a satisfying experience of the park's recreation and natural resources. The plan will review the current conditions at the park and make recommendations for improvement to existing facilities as well as new facilities to meet patron needs.

The public will have two other opportunities to make comments on the parks at public information meetings in May. The dates, times and locations of these meetings will be announced at the open house and through the agency public information office.

For further information about the open house and the new master plan please contact Salim Chishti, Park Planner by email at thacher-thompson.plan@parks.ny.gov or by mail at OPRHP, 17th floor Agency Building 1, Empire State Plaza, Albany, NY 12238.
