Schoharie Crossing Boat Launch: Hartley Lane, Town of Glen off Rt 5S

Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site has partnered with Audrey from Down by the River Kayak Rentals to deliver a free program for children ages (14 to 17) that will provide them with the opportunity to get out on the waters of the Schoharie Creek and Mohawk River in order to learn how to paddle safely. We will utilize the Schoharie Crossing Boat Launch off Rt. 5S across from Karen's Produce. This FREE program has a limited number of spots available in each of the two offered sessions. **Pre-registration is required. Use the link to register your paddler** This program is intended for children who have little or no experience kayaking. We are excited to be able to provide local children access to the vital and historically important waterways of the Schoharie Creek and Mohawk River.

Join us for a beginner’s kayak course at Thompson’s Lake! Learn the basics of kayaking with emphasis on effective paddling strokes and safe practices. This introductory course is ideal for first time and beginner kayakers. Sturdy shoes/sandals are preferred. Program is appropriate for adults and children age 12 years and older. Space is very limited, preregister by calling 518-872-0800. Parking fee is $7, kayaks are provided for participants.

Visitor Center – Schoharie Street, Ft. Hunter

Join an environmental educator on at Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site for a habitat hike to learn about the different animals that call this area home and some of their special characteristics. This program will meet at the Visitor Center and enjoy an hour-long walk around the site. This program is open to all ages, but has been designed for families with children ages 5 and up. The hike is a less than two mile round-trip and is weather dependent (will be cancelled in the event of heavy rain or thunderstorms).

We'll paddle up the Schoharie Creek if the water level allows and witness the bright yellows, reds, and oranges, that signal the changing of the seasons. This is a relaxing, quiet tour for patrons who need to rent a kayak, or have their own. Sign up today as there are a limited number of spaces!

We have many diverse kayaks available for rent for $10.00. Pre-registration is REQUIRED. No walk-ins will be allowed. PFD's are REQUIRED. Children must be 10 years of age to kayak on their own. Accommodations can be made for younger children. Please call the park office at (518) 827-8690 to register or for more information.
