Learn the basics of fly fishing and leave with the skills and confidence to get out on the water in this four-part workshop series led by expert Len Savanella. Sessions 1 and 2 will cover the vocabulary and history of fly fishing, gear, casting, and fly tying. Sessions 3 and 4 will cover ecology and best practices and will take place in the stream so you can put your newfound skills to the test! Equipment will be provided but if you have your own, please bring it. Recommendations for gear and literary resources will be provided. Registration limited to 8 people. Cost: $50. Peer into the cosmos with Vinny Coulehan of the Rockland Astronomy Club. View the night sky through a telescope and observe Jupiter, Saturn, stars and more! Meet in the Visitor Center courtyard. Did you know that the famous horseman ride in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow likely took place here in the Preserve? Additionally, there are quite a few lesser-known legends that take place on this land. The names of some of our most iconic locations (Spook Rock, Ravens Rock, Witch's Spring) come from stories that have been told by locals for hundreds of years. Join Ranger Su for a 2-mile hike to visit some of these locations and hear their stories. Leashed dogs are welcome. The hike will begin at 25 Sleepy Hollow Rd, Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591. Rockefeller State Park Preserve
This 2.5-hour, 3.5 mile hike is a relatively level route with trails varying from packed pebble gravel to loose gravel of varying texture. You'll be introduced to the variety of environments existing within the Preserve including lake views, fields, and forests. Traditional wheelchair users have made the trip; however, the trail will be rougher than usual. Those using adaptive hiking devices having mountain tires will be more comfortable. The Preserve has two such devices available that can be borrowed for scheduled hikes when reserved two days in advance. The hike starts Promptly at 10:00 in the Visitor Center Courtyard. Make sure you have water with you. Cost: FREE. Parking: $6 per vehicle.

In this workshop, we'll explore both the website and smartphone app of iNaturalist —a community-based education and science resource for those curious about nature, interested in improving their familiarity with local organisms. Receive first-hand practice as we walk through RSPP and learn how to take clear, concise photographs that optimize your subject.
