This hike will take us about 2.5 miles one way to a beautiful bog. There is a lean to at Lake Ann that we can stop and have lunch at. Make sure to bring some water. We will be starting this long approximately 4.5/5-mile hike at the Spring Overlook parking area. We will hike the short section of the Western Ridge trail to the Eastern Ridge trail that is a bit steep for the first mile. From there we will hike all the Eastern Ridge trail to the Ridge Run trail then connect onto the Western Ridge which will take us back to the Spring Overlook parking. Two Stunning Views Snowshoe Outing

Not a morning person? Then, join a park educator for this two-mile-long, afternoon snowshoe outing in the Peter's Kill Area of Minnewaska. Our route, which does include a few modestly challenging hills, will feature views of the Rondout Valley and Clove Valley from cliff top ledges. This program is recommended for physically fit adults and children older than eight years old. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 18. A limited number of snowshoes are available for participants to borrow for this program from the education department, located at the Peter's Kill Area. Otherwise, snowshoes may be rented from the Park Preserve Office, located at the Peter's Kill Area, for $5 per person for this program. Early arrival is suggested if you would like to borrow snowshoes. If there is insufficient snow cover, this program will be offered as a hike. Meet in the Peter's Kill Area. Tuesday Trek: High Peter’s Kill and Awosting Falls Loop Snowshoe Outing at Minnewaska

Come join a park educator for an adventurous five-mile snowshoe hike along the High Peter's Kill Footpath and the Awosting Falls Carriage Road. Starting from the Awosting Parking Area, participants will hike along the High Peter's Kill Footpath, a narrow trail that slowly descends to the edge of the Peter's Kill stream. Interesting icicle formations abound along the edges of the stream. From here, we'll continue along the Yellow Connector Footpath to reach the Red Loop Footpath, which we'll follow up through the woods for a rest at the Park Preserve Office. The return trip will take participants on the easy-going Awosting Falls Carriage Road, past the 65-foot tall Awosting Falls, where a volcano-shaped ice cone forms if conditions are right. The first half of this route includes numerous hills, rocky spots and potentially icy areas. This is a rigorous outing and participants must wear appropriate winter gear and bring plenty of food and water for the day. A limited number of snowshoes are available for participants to borrow for this program from the education department, located at the Peter's Kill Area. Otherwise, snowshoes may be rented from the Park Preserve Office, located at the Peter's Kill Area, for $5 per person for this program. Early arrival is suggested for snowshoe rental. Jenny Lane Loop Hike at Minnewaska

Join Laura Conner and Stefan Ramirez, Student Conservation Association/AmeriCorps Educator, for a hike along the Jenny Lane section of the Shawangunk Ridge Trail and the Blueberry Run Footpath, through a section of forest that was burned during the 2008 forest fire. This route brings hikers to the verdant Mossy Glen Footpath, which follows along the edge of the Peter's Kill stream. This loop will finish up with a one mile hike on the Wawarsing Turnpike Footpath, a section of the toll road built in the 1850s that crossed the Shawangunk Ridge. This five-mile-long hike includes some hilly sections, two stream crossings and lots of walking on exposed bedrock. Meet in the Awosting Parking Area.

Hike around Lake Minnewaska and along Beacon Hill

Join Stefan Ramirez, Student Conservation Association/AmeriCorps Educator, for a three-mile hike along the Lake Minnewaska Carriage Road, Beacon Hill Footpath and Beacon Hill Carriage Road. We'll walk the picturesque route around the Lake from West to East, stopping along the way for a short detour to a scenic vista of the Catskills. Then, we'll hike the Beacon Hill Footpath, which follows along the top edge of an east-facing escarpment and gets bathed in the warm, morning light. This walk will offer beautiful views of the Rondout and Wallkill Valleys below and the Catskill Mountains to the north. The carriage roads are relatively easy walking, however, the footpath does include some hills and tricky footing. Meet at the Minnewaska Nature Center.

Join Laura Conner, Environmental Educator, and Stefan Ramirez, Student Conservation Association/AmeriCorps Educator for this five-mile hike along the Lake Minnewaska Carriage Road, Millbrook Mountain Carriage Road and Millbrook Mountain Footpath. The gorgeous views from the cliff on top of Millbrook Mountain include the Sky Top tower and the verdant Wallkill Valley below. Raptors are often seen soaring beneath the cliff. The footpath does feature a steep hill up and down, as well as a stream crossing and some potentially tricky footing. If conditions are right, we'll pass numerous blooming mountain laurel bushes along the way. Participants should pack water and food and wear appropriate shoes.

Spring Wake Up Hike from the Heights at Minnewaska

Come join park educators to celebrate the springing of spring! Come as we explore Castle Point Carriage Road and search for signs that spring is springing on the Shawangunk Ridge. This approximately seven-mile hike will start from the Lake Minnewaska area and follow historic carriage roads to reach Castle Point, a scenic vista with commanding views of the surrounding Park Preserve and Hudson Valley. We will return to Lake Minnewaska on Hamilton Point Carriage Road, if time permits. If snowy and icy conditions persist on the carriage roads, the hike destination may change. Meet at the Minnewaska Nature Center.

Falling 187 feet over a dramatic, rocky ledge, Verkeerderkill Falls is the highest waterfall in the Shawangunk Mountains. We'll walk through the dwarf pitch pines and enjoy views of the Hudson Valley below. While this five-and-a-half-mile hike does not have significant elevation gain, it does include some steep, rocky terrain and a stream crossing. If enough snow is present, participants are welcome to use snowshoes. Snowshoes are available for rent at the Sam's Point Visitor Center at the rate of $5 per person for the program. Early arrival is requested for snowshoe rental. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 18. Meet at the Sam's Point Visitor Center.
